It is narrated from Imaam Ash Shaafi'ii rahimahullah that He said:
أَخِي لَنْ تَنَالَ الْعِلْمَ إلَّا بِسِتَّةٍ *** سَأُنْبِيكَ عَنْ تفصيلهاَ بِبَيَانِ
ذَكَاءٍ وَحِرْصٍ وَاجْتِهَادٍ وَبُلْغَةٍ *** وَإِرْشَادِ أُسْتَاذٍ وَطُولِ زَمَانِ
(translation)
"My Brother you will not gain knowledge except with six, I will tell you about it in detail.
1. Intelligence.
2. Diligence.
3. Studying Hard.
4. Maturity.
5. Company of a teacher.
6. Long period of time."
